
Walt Disney
Walt Disney was a famous animator and film director most popularly known for the creation of the iconic character Mickey Mouse (shown below) and many of films he has directed or created the characters of. Walt disney was also known as the creator of Snow White.

Walt Disney was born in 1901 and died at the age of 65 in 1966 He was raised in Marceline, Missouri, and later moved to Kansas City, where he began his studies in cartooning. In 1918, he joined the Red Cross as an ambulance driver in France after forging his birth date to meet age requirements. Along with his brother Roy, he established the Disney Brothers Studio (later Walt Disney Productions) in 1923, which became one of the most successful film studios in history. He created Mickey Mouse in 1928, which was the first animated short with synchronized sound, Steamboat Willie. Following Snow White, he released classics including Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo, Bambi, and live-action films like Mary Poppins. He opened Disneyland in 1955 and planned the “Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow” (EPCOT) in Florida, which was developed after his death. He married Lillian Bounds in 1925; she was a supportive partner and assisted him in his early career. He holds the record for the most Academy Awards, winning 32 during his career. He lived a very successful life and left a huge impact on the animation and film society.

There are two well known biographies on Walt Disney that i would recommend and are available online and in some book stores if you would like to learn more. Their following titles are “[Walt Disney: An American Original” by Bob Thomas: This is considered one of the most definitive biographies, which explores his life from his early days in Kansas City to his success in Hollywood. And “[Walt Disney: The Triumph of the American Imagination” by Neal Gabler: A highly detailed, scholarly biography published in 2006 that offers an in-depth look at his life and legacy.
